Deacon Christopher P. Quinn is a life-long resident of Bethpage and has been a parishioner at St. Martin of Tours for over 60 years. After attending St. Martin of Tours Elementary School and Island Trees High School, Chris graduated from Nassau Community College with an Associate of Arts degree and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and psychology from Hofstra University. Chris has a deep personal affection towards St. Martin’s parish and especially toward fellow parishioners. Having received his sacraments here, St. Martin’s is truly his spiritual home.
Chris had extensive experience in the business world for over 35 years and currently works for the Catholic Cemeteries in the Diocese of Rockville Centre as a service representative. Before his ordination to the Diaconate in the spring of 2019, Chris had served as Minister of the Word and as Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. He has been on the Parish Liturgy Committee and continues to do so as deacon.
It was Chris’ parents who initially instilled in their children the importance of the Catholic faith and the sacrifices that were made in their early faith formation. Later in life, because of the faith and actions of a priest and a deacon, Chris was inspired and encouraged to pursue ordained ministry. Studying for ordination to the Permanent Diaconate was a truly rewarding experience, albeit one that is highly challenging requiring both deep, individual resolve and personal commitment. His profound desire to serve Christ and His Church is what kept him focused in completing the formation process.
Having been ordained for a full year, Chris views his ministry with humility and deep spiritual desire coupled with the beautiful Redemptorist spirit for which he will always be grateful and privileged to possess. His eagerness to serve in any capacity while leading others in liturgy and prayer has endeared him to the St. Martin’s parish family.
On a personal note, Chris’ hobbies include walking, gardening, music and volunteer work. He was a volunteer at the Nassau County Dept. of Probation for 3 years and a member of Engine 7 in the Levittown Fire Department for approximately 10 years. He owns his own home and has a sister, niece and a nephew with whom he is very close.
His favorite saints include St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower), St. John Paul II, St. John of the Cross and St. John Henry Cardinal Newman. Other individuals who have greatly influenced him and his faith life include Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, Bishop Robert Barron and the apologist G.K. Chesterton.
Deacon Chris’ personal desire and goal is to serve the parishioners of St. Martin of Tours in their individual faith journey, and to do so with humility, compassion and commitment, so as to move forward and grow together as a faith community for the glory and honor of God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
