Men of the parish who feel the call to serve the Church as Deacon should initially call the pastor at 516-931-0818 to make an appointment for discussion. After completing a 4 - 5 year formation program at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, the candidate will be called forth by the bishop for ordination as Permanent Deacon.
Once ordained, the Deacon exercises a three-fold ministry of Word, Sacrament and Charity. His duties include proclaiming, preaching and teaching the Word of God, witnessing marriages, ministering the Sacrament of Baptism, conducting funeral rites of the Church, administering Viaticum, conducting prayer services and spiritual direction.
